CBCSL – SPECIAL
MEETING
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference gathered at a special
meeting at “Underbank” the arcdiocesan holiday house in
Nuwara Eliya from June 18th – 22nd 2007 to discuss the
topic of Seminary Formation. It focused specifically on
the processes of formation now being conducted at the
National Major Seminary, Ampitiya which is under the
purview of the CBCSL.
The Bishops were assisted in their discussions and
deliberations by Very Rev. Fr. S.M. Selvaratnam OMI ,
Provincial Superior of the Oblates of Jaffna, who has
been a member of the faculty of St. Anselm’s Institute,
Kent, England.
A series of measures is expected to be taken to enhance
the formation programmes imparted at the National
Seminary, especially in the area of human formation to
ensure that all the major Seminarians receive a more
holistic and integral preparation for their life and
pastoral ministry. "It is expected to commence with a
three-months training programme in 2008 for the
staff-members and the formators to equip them with the
skills they need to handle the area of human formation.". A programme for the seminarians too
will follow later.
In addition, services of a competent group is being
solicited to draw up such on-going formation programmes
for priests on a diocesan basis |
